PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This is a natural Acheulean Stone Hand Axe from the Early Stone Age Found in the old Orange River beds (where it used to run 1.5 ish mya) in the Northern Cape, South Africa - these appeared over 1.8 million years ago, give or take a few, and were probably used by homo Ergaster /Earlier homo Erectus) over 1.4 million years ago. This is quite something to own!
This piece comes from the collection of Jan Smuts - the former Prime Minister of South Africa and Co-founder of the League of Nations. He was an adviser to Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt and also was responsible for most of the Paleoanthropological artifacts in South African Museums, setting up of the South African Museums systems, along with the initiation of Govt funding Raymond Dart and Robert Broom (Sterkfontein Caves) , two of the worlds most famous Paleoanthropologists.
