Hand Made Green Verdite Giraffe Carving x 1 From Zimbabwe

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 

A Very Nice 18cm High Verdite Giraffe Between the Acacia trees Sculpted Plate Carving set into a wooden base. Nice House Décor item or special Gift. 

Verdite is a light to dark green Serpentine-like mineral dating back 3500 million years ago. This beautiful green stone Morphs into Bud Stone Further along the ancient Barberton Greenbelt Geological Area and into Swaziland Jade and Bloodstone on the Swaziland side of the Border. The material has  been commonly used in Zimbabwe Shona carvings for many decades. The colours of the green are variable across pieces,  and has swirling patterns of different shades of green and yellow/gold in it and has been a popular stone to Carve because of its homogenous medium soft texture (but its pretty hard and even has corundum in it) Diamond tools and excellent skills are necessary.
