PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a profound piece of early human technology with this authentic African Bored Stone (!kwe), dating back approximately 1,800 to 2,500 years to the regional Late Stone Age and early Iron Age. Masterfully pecked and conically bored from local earth-toned river stone, this artifact represents the sophisticated tool making traditions of sub-Saharan Africa's hunter gatherer and early farming communities. Far from a basic millstone, these specialized perforated spheres were highly valued utilitarian and ritual objects. They were primarily wedged onto wooden handles to serve as weighted digging stick anchors, providing critical leverage to break hard, sun baked soils for root and tuber foraging. Imbued with a beautiful rustic patina and deep historic resonance, this beautifully preserved piece makes an extraordinary museum quality addition to any archaeological or paleoanthropological collection.
